The University of Colorado Hospital at the AMC

A long list of firsts and bests.

The University of Colorado Hospital, located on the Anschutz Medical Campus, is a premiere academic medical center, long recognized as one of America's best hospitals. UCH has the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in the Rocky Mountain region and is a national leader in clinical trials for head and neck cancer. But recognition for this outstanding institution began decades ago.

In 1963, UCH performed the world’s first liver transplant and has since performed more than 2,000 liver and kidney transplants, as well as over 320 lung transplants and over 300 heart transplants. In fact, UCH has received the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Medal of Honor for organ donor practices.

UCH also ranks among the top ten American academic hospitals in the treatment of trauma and urological disease, according to the University Health System Consortium. And it has been named among the nation’s top-ten ophthalmology practices by Ophthalmology Times magazine. Finally, UCH has much-honored programs in women’s health, cardiac and vascular care, addiction rehabilitation, audiology, multiple sclerosis and neuromuscular diseases, mental health and primary care.
